Dahi Baray/Ballay (Lentil Dumplings in Yogurt)


Ingredients

  • Mash pulse 2 cups
  • Mustard seed 1 tsp
  • Cumin seed (crushed) 1 tsp
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Ginger 2 tsp
  • Green chillies 2-3
For yogurt:
  • Yogurt 2 cup
  • Sugar 1 tsp
  • Rock salt/Kala namak 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seed 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
For Baghar:
  • Cumin seed
  • Green chillies
  • Coriander leaves
  • Red chilli powder
  • Ginger
  • Oil for baghar

Cooking Directions

  1. Boil and grind mash pulse.
  2. In pulse put cumin seed, mustard seed, salt, ginger and chillies mix well.
  3. Heat oil in a wok take mixture in spoon and put in wok, fry baray well and put aside.
  4. Blend yogurt with addition of sugar, rock salt, cumin seed and salt.
  5. In a bowl put fried baray and pour blended yogurt over it.
  6. Heat oil add cumin seed, ginger, red chilli powder and green chillies stir and give baghar onto dahi baras.
  7. Serve with tamarind chutney.
