If
you're feeling stressed out, perhaps the best way to calm your nerves
would be to try a rejuvenating spa therapy. And one of the popular ones
to choose from is aroma therapy.
But it is not only men and women who are going through this wonderful experience. Many pet owners are getting their dogs to experience the wonderful benefits of this science. Especially for those who are over active by nature, short-tempered and suffer from certain illnesses.
A science that works through smell, aromatherapy has been proved to be a very effective treatment for various illnesses in animals. Research says that this therapy that uses the essence of different flowers possesses multi-beneficial properties that heal, revive and strengthen the immune system in animals just like in humans.
There are different ways in which dogs can be given this therapy. Dog breeder and hostel owner Shalaka Mundada tells us, "Using a diffuser is the most common method. The constant spraying effect of a diffuser creates a fresh air balance, which has a more direct effect. This method is also very popular abroad." This natural therapy also does not have any side effects.
Aroma massages are also a very popular treatment for dogs with temperamental problems. The treatment comprises using calming oils like lavender which is known to calm down the aggressive behaviour of dogs. Mundada adds, "Sometimes, dogs can get homesick when the owners leave them alone at home or at the hostel. They also have emotional upsets and may refuse to eat.
At such times, using soothing oils in a massage can do the trick." Oral aroma therapy tablets that successfully treat anxiety problems are equally effective. Aroma oils used in the bathing water or on the dogs' bed, behind the ears or on the nape can be effective to dissipate dog odour too.
The therapy is also useful to help heal skin infections. Neem and eucalyptus oils boiled in water during the bath gives good results. Veterinarian Dr Milind Hatekar says, "Eucalyptus oil is very effective in treating fleas and ticks. In fact, according to a German research, dogs henceforth may not require tick collars when infected.
Dabbing eucalyptus oil on a collar can cure them of the ailment." But Dr Hatekar also warns one against fake products. He adds, "One should use only pure and good quality oils as general products run the risk of having harmful chemicals. What suits one animal need not suit the other. So, it's advisable to seek professional help." Used effectively, aroma therapy gives amazing results, and keeps your dog healthy and happy.
