Laptops are portable computers that have both the capability and functionality of desktop computers. These portable computers are small, foldable, and can be easily carried around. The components of a laptop are similar to that of a desktop, except for its small size. In a laptop computer, the mouse, scroll, key board, and screen are integrated within a single unit. Similar to desktop computers, laptop computers are also powered by microprocessors. These microprocessors are considered as the vital of the laptop that synchronizes with all functions based on the programmed instructions. Next to processors, the operating system plays a fundamental role in proper functioning of the laptop. The set of pre-programmed instructions that tell the microprocessor what to do is called as operating system. Laptop computer come with both Read Only Memory (RAM) and Random Access Memory (ROM). The main function of RAM is to store the application software and data files while the computer is running. Most laptops should have at least 64 MB of RAM to have sufficient memory to run operating systems and applications software.

Laptops have more benefits that a regular desktop computer. The main advantage is its portability and small size. Notebook laptops can be easily fitted into briefcases or backpacks. The small size and low weight make it very easy to carry these laptops around. Laptops can work on energy stored in batteries, so you can charge the laptop and use it even when there is no power. This feature also enables one to use laptops in remote locations where there is no electric power supply.

The cost of the laptop depends on the brand and the model. The price range of a laptop is anything from $500 to $3,000. Comparatively laptops are costlier than desktops. You can also go in for second hand laptops which may be more affordable.
